SIMS ON-LINE BOOKSTORE

- This complex WWW application uses a SQL database to generate most of the HTML pages the user sees.
- Users can browse thru the catalogue or locate books by searching.
- A order is made by adding books in a virtual shopping cart.
- When shopping is finished the user can order the books by supplying his name, address and credit card information. This is done on a secure server for security reasons.
- The administrator at SIMS has full access to the database and can add, modify of delete data on-line.
- All changes are immediate and pages containing this data reflect these changes as they are made.

- Notice the Last modified date on the left and see later how it can easily be changed on-line by the administrator.

BROWSING THE CATALOGUE

- This page is dynamicaly generated from data in the SQL database.
- Notice that the number of subcategories and titles in subcategories is calculated from the database dynamicaly. If there is no subcategory and no title in the category the subcategory is not a HTML link. As soon as a book is added to the category a link will appear automatically.

BOOK DATA

- This page is dynamicaly generated from data in the SQL database.
- Notice that the category and subcategory are HTML links.
- Book data that can produce lists for further browsing are also HTML links (f.i. book author - all books by the author currnetly in the database, publisher name - all books published by this company currently in the database, etc.)
- If a picture is available it will appear, and if not a default picture appears. As soon as a cover picture is uploaded it will automatically appear when the appropriate page is accessed.
- If the user wants to order the book he can click on the button "Add to shopping cart". The items in the shopping cart can easily be modified.

SHOPPING CART
- This page is dynamicaly generated from data in the SQL database.
- The shopping cart can be modified on this page by deleting items or changing quantities of ordered goods. New items can be added by further browsing or searching thru the catalogue.
- If the user wants to finish ordering books he can click on the button "Make order".
- The shopping cart can be emptied by a click on the button "Empty shopping cart".

ORDERING

- This page is dynamicaly generated from data in the SQL database.
- Note that this page is on a Secure server for security reasons. The IP number, time and some other information is stored so that fraudent transactions can be traced.
- After the users fills in all the information the sales department at SIMS receives a E-mail that informs them that a order has been placed but there is no credit card information in this E-mail message.
For security reasons they can only check the credit card information via a username/password combination on the Secure server on a secret address.
(A option here is to send all information by E-mail but to encrypt the information with PGP.)
As soon as they note the order all information about the order is deleted from the server.

ADMINISTRATION PAGES
- After entering a valid username and pasword the administrator can modify data on the server without the need to play with HTML code.
- Note here how easy it is to change the Last modified date on the left part of the screen.
- Browsing or searching for a book in the same way as the user the administrator can locate the book and it's data, but with the diference that the administrator has the possibility to make changes, add and delete data .

ADDING, CHANGING AND DELETING DATA AND BOOKS
- All book data, including the category, can be modified on this page by entering values or by using pull down menus or radio buttons where appropriate.
- By pressing "Obrisi" (Croatian for "Delete") the 2 phase delete process of a book will begin.
- Other books can be accessed from this page by entering the book code in the top field "Sifra knjige" (book code) and pressing the button "Ispisi" (Croatian for "Display").
- New books can be entered by using a unused book code in the above mentioned field "Sifra knjige".
- When data is changed or entered by clicking on "Promijeni" (Croatian for "Modify") the changes are made in the SQL database and this new data will appear on all appropriate pages when requested by a user browsing the catalogue.
- If a picture is available it will appear, and if not a default picture appears. As soon as a cover picture is uploaded it will automatically appear when the appropriate page is accessed.
- All fields that can be usefull for further browsing and administration are HTML links.
